Why You Need A Mobile Optimized Website

Well, the time has come. We all knew it would. In the fourth quarter of 2015, Interactive Media in Retail Group (IMRG) states the digital tipping point has arrived: there was an increase in more e-commerce sales from mobile devices than desktop and laptops.

In fact, 49% of online transactions from the last few months of 2015 were on desktops and laptops, while 51% of sales came from the mighty mobile landscape (smartphones and tablets). When you break the numbers down even further, tables took home 33% of mobile e-commerce sales, while smartphones accounted for 18%.

Getting To Know The Story Behind Your Shoppers

There are, of course, various phases that occur before a conversion takes place. When it comes to the research phase, folks love mobile. Two-thirds of visits to retail sites were from a mobile device, up more than 10% from the previous year.

So why is this shift continuing to move upwards, in favor of portable devices? Technology, of course, has something to do with it. These days, paying via smartphone is as easy as, well, using your fingerprint. That increased ease of use has made the smartphone the most popular technology of 2015. Tablets, on the other hand, seem to be hitting a wall in terms of e-commerce usage: using these devices hit a record low in December 2015.

What Does This Mean For E-Commerce Advertisers

Firstly, what it means is that mobile technology is unquestionably catching up to consumer expectations and demand. One of the biggest steps online merchants and advertisers can take in the virtual world is to humanize their relationship with their customers.

Mobile devices – and the matching technology – have made that possible. Advertisers and marketers need to find a way to harness the advancements in mobile technology and deliver a personalized message for their audiences.

True, research seems to be the favored action taking place on mobile, but conversions are also increasing, specifically on mobile devices. How is your mobile user experience? Does it leave room for improvement?
