Now That PriceGrabber Has Been Acquired By Connexity, What Does This Mean For You?
It seems Connexity is continuing to make some waves in the industry. Just last week we discussed changes coming to Connexity on the heels of its purchase of Become.com. This followed the recent rebranding from Shopzilla to Connexity in 2014.
Now, the comparison shopping engine is set to expand after acquiring PriceGrabber. By consolidating both Connexity and PriceGrabber, Connexity solidifies itself as the second largest retail lead generation channel, behind Google.
Why Does This Matter To You?
More than 2,000 retailers rely on PriceGrabber to advertise on sites such as Ask.com, as well as on its own site, PriceGrabber.com. This recent acquisition means that consumers will get more content information and access, while online retailers will discover a simplified and efficient solution for tracking, reporting, and monetizing their products.
PriceGrabber is best known for its price-comparison services. However, it also works with a wide range of retailers and merchants to provide data, such as AOL, Bing, Comcast and Yahoo. It also offers a CPC marketplace, thus this acquisition will enhance the distribution of products uploaded to both PriceGrabber and Connexity.
For online retailers, that means that much more focus should be shifted toward Connexity and its focus on the future. With all of the changes they’ve made in the last few years, it’s clear that the company has plans on growing to the point that Google is no longer considered the alpha dog in the pack.
One Behemoth Of An Ecommerce Marketing Solution
The merger of these two platforms (including their customer bases and data) means the creation of a new behemoth of an ecommerce solution for online retailers. In fact, this newly combined company will be one of the world’s largest sources of high-intent shopping, resulting in more than $2 billion in annual sales for retailers and brands.
It also leaves NexTag as the only fully independent price-comparison consumer website.
While Google remains the largest product listing aggregator and lead generator on the web, Connexity surely must be among the leaders for second in command.
“We are pleased to combine forces with one of the most respected lead-generation companies in retail,” said Bill Glass, CEO of Connexity. “Our two companies are industry pioneers and putting these exceptional teams together is going to create a powerful retail marketing platform for the future.”
So What Can You Do In Response To This Acquisition?
We already know that retailers that use Become.com have to update their feeds in preparation for the July shutdown. Existing PriceGrabber users likely don’t have to worry about that just yet, but they do need to reconsider how they’re utilizing PriceGrabber. And retailers actively using Connexity must consider how they can adapt their strategizes to maximize their return on investment.
